Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech) is a private academic research institute located in the Moscow region near the village of Skolkovo. Founded in 2011 in cooperation with MIT, Skoltech University is responsible for preparing a new generation of researchers and entrepreneurs, expanding scientific knowledge, and stimulating technological innovation with the aim of solving important technological research problems that Russia and the rest of the world may face in the future.

Skoltech began as a joint effort with a curriculum designed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and financial support from the Russian government. The school offers only postgraduate degrees, and instruction is conducted in English. It serves as the cornerstone of a $2.7 billion innovation center funded by the Russian Ministry of Finance.
By 2013, the university employed 30 to 35 professors and established a campus 19 kilometers from Red Square near Odintsovo. In 2018, it opened a new campus designed by Herzog & de Meuron with an area of 130,000 square meters. It is the first work in Russia for Swiss practice and the result of an international competition. In 2019, the university won the first prize of the Versailles Prize in the “Campus” category.
