About
Since its inception in 1977, Qatar University (QU) continues to serve as Qatar’s primary institution of higher education and has become today a beacon of academic and research excellence in the region.
QU is committed to providing high-quality education in areas of national priority. Underpinning this commitment is the goal to align its colleges, programs, and courses with established international standards and best practices. As a result, QU has been successful in its accreditation initiatives, earning the endorsement of numerous leading international accrediting bodies.
QU hosts ten colleges — College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), College of Business and Economics (CBE), College of Education (CED), College of Engineering (CENG), College of Health Sciences (CHS), College of Law (LAWC), College of Medicine (CMED), College of Pharmacy (CPH), College of Sharia and Islamic Studies (CSIS) and College of Dental Medicine (CDM).
QU offers the widest range of academic programs — 47 Bachelors, 29 Masters, 20 Ph.D. programs, nine Diplomas, and a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD)– in Qatar tailoring them to meet the needs of Qatari society.
Research is an integral part of the academic environment at QU and is bolstered by the state-of-the-art Research Complex, and 14 research centers of excellence. It is further enhanced by over 400 collaborative projects in over 130 countries.
Community engagement is an area stationed at the heart of QU’s mission and vision. University Students
QU’s diverse and lively student body of over 23000 is a testament to the potential of Qatar’s greatest future leaders, respected scholars, and inspired artisans. About Scholarships
Qatar University supports a wide variety of scholarship recipients each academic year in order to attract highly qualified students. The academic scholarships are awarded based on academic merit and scholarly achievement.
Types of Scholarship
Qatar University offers types of scholarships annually to attract qualified students, provided that they meet the requirements of each scholarship and submit the required documents.
Important Definitions
Scholarship
A merit-based award that provides qualified applicants with an opportunity to attend Qatar University without paying tuition fees, and other merits depending on the type of scholarship.
Internal Scholarships
Scholarships offered by Qatar University to students who are residents in Qatar. Students with these scholarships are exempt from paying tuition fees only.
External Scholarships
Scholarships offered by Qatar University to applicants from outside Qatar. These applicants may apply directly to the University. Such students will be sponsored by Qatar University and these scholarships include exemption from tuition fees, provision of university accommodation, and annual round trip air fare ticket and booking fees exemption.
University Housing
Free accommodation offered by Qatar University for students who satisfy all conditions set forth by the University. This includes meals and transportation to and from Qatar University.
Annual Airline Ticket
A round-trip ticket from Doha to the town nearest to the student’s house in his/her homeland. Each ticket is given once every year to the students who satisfy the conditions set forth by the University.
Competitive Scholarships
Scholarships where students or applicants are selected on competitive basis based on their university GPA if the student is current student at QU, or based on their high school GPA if the student in newly applicant student.
Non-Competitive Scholarships
Scholarships that are given to students upon submitting the required documents to the Scholarship and International Students Section.
Terms and Conditions
Maximum Duration Condition
All scholarship students must commit to maximum duration which is the proposed duration of the academic program that he/she is studying at, which is based on the program graduation requirements, in addition to the number of semesters spent in the Foundation Program (maximum one year). The maximum duration does not include summer courses or courses that the student drops or withdraws.

Foundation Period
- GPA and the number of registered credit hours during the Foundation Program are not counted.
- Complete the Foundation Program in 2 semesters only (one year).
- If the student did not pass the Foundation Program in 2 semesters:
- Internal Scholarship: the scholarship will be suspended; the student can continue studying at Qatar University but has to pay full tuition fees on his own. However, for Non-Competitive Scholarships, only students can return the scholarship after completing the foundation program or transfer to colleges that do not require foundation program.
- External Scholarship: the scholarship will be stopped; student’s residency will be canceled and the student will be given a one-way ticket to go back to his country, as long as Qatar University is his sponsor. However, this student can continue his study in QU and remain under QU residency sponsorship as a paying student only when the student fulfills the International students policies to bear all expenses.
Undergraduate Students
After completing the Foundation Program, the following conditions must be fulfilled:
- Must satisfy the maximum duration condition illustrated above.
- Must register and pass 12 credit hours in each regular semester. (In exceptional cases only, such as, incomplete grade, expected to graduate, medical reason, etc. the student can apply for Exception Application through “Self Services Banner” to exclude him from Credit Hour Scholarship Warning; after a decision made by the academic advisor, the section will review the application and respond with the approval or rejection decision).
- Must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50 out of 4 for Qatar University scholarships, H.H. the Emir of Qatar’s Scholarships for Academic Excellence, and Outstanding Performance Scholarships.
- If the student does not fulfill either of the 2 conditions above (2&3), the student will receive a Scholarship Warning.
- If a student receives 2 Scholarship Warnings (from the same type) or exceeded the maximum duration condition:
- Internal Scholarship: the scholarship will be stopped, and the student can continue studying at Qatar University but has to pay full tuition fees on his own.
- External Scholarship: the scholarship will be stopped; student’s residency will be canceled and the student will be given a one-way ticket to go back to his country, as long as Qatar University is his sponsor. However, this student can continue his study in QU and remain under QU residency sponsorship as a paying student only when the student fulfills the International students policies to bear all expenses.
- After the student’s scholarship has been canceled, student will not be eligible to receive that scholarship again, regardless of whether the situation is amended.

- A brief statement (around 350 words) to describe the candidate’s motivation to study medicine.
- Supporting evidence of previous volunteering experience in the healthcare sector, medical or scientific internships, or community work (recommended).
- Admission for international students is highly competitive. While high school GPA is the main admission criterion, non-national students are advised to also submit evidence of outstanding performance in standardized tests (IELTS, TOEFL, MCAT, SAT CAT…), volunteer experience, or any other qualifications that might strengthen their applications

Selecting a Major
- Students are admitted into their college’s general program at the time of admission to Qatar University.
- Students may seek to declare their major, after meeting the minimum academic requirements. Admission to the major is extremely competitive; and satisfying the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission into the major.
- Majors are open to QU students provided that:
- They meet the admission requirements for the major.
- They pass the Foundation Program requirements, if applicable.
- The department offering the major approves the major declaration on the basis of department capacity.
- Students may declare and pursue only one major.
- Students should declare their selected major before completing 36 undergraduate credit hours.
- At least half of the credit hours required to complete the major must be taken in residence at QU.
- A student must complete the graduation requirements for a Bachelor degree at Qatar University in order to receive recognition for the completed major.
- The only recognition delivered by the University for a major completed by a student consists on the appearance of the major on the student official transcript at the time of graduation and the student graduation statement.
High School Percentage Exception
All applicants who do not satisfy the initial high school percentage requirements listed above may still apply to the college and major of their choice by completing 12 years of formal education and satisfying the minimum competency requirements based on the college they apply to as follows:

The dean of the college will consider such requests against the quality and depth of the applicant pool, the available capacity within the applicant’s intended major, and high school subject grades.
